Whether you have a passion for performing or an interest in production and design, the theatre program at Virginia Tech invites you to create with us.
The theatre program offers many opportunities for students to get involved:
Mainstage Productions
Each year the program presents four mainstage productions directed by faculty. Open to both theatre majors and non-majors! See our auditions page for dates and details.
Interested in working backstage and behind-the-scenes?
We welcome you to join in: as a member of the running crew, helping out with a light hang, or volunteering your skills and enthusiasm in our scene or costume shop.
Have an interest in volunteering as an usher? Or learning more about theatre publicity and marketing? We have a management office that welcomes interested students from across campus.

Graduate Student Workshops
Graduate students in the Directing and Public Dialogue program direct workshops each year. See our auditions page for dates and details.
Undergraduate Student Workshops
Theatre and Cinema students with an interest in directing are encouraged to submit an application to direct a Student Workshop. Any major who has met the following criteria is eligible to submit a directing proposal:
1. Successful completion of the Directing I class
2. A successful experience as Assistant to the Director to one of our faculty directors on a mainstage production
3. At least one of the following: a) a second Assistant to the Director position like the above; b) a successful Assistant Stage Manager position on a main stage production; or c) demonstrated involvement (other than acting) with a mainstage process, or a faculty-directed production
Once you've met these criteria, please secure a faculty advisor, and work with that advisor to develop your directing proposal which is then disseminated to the Theatre & Cinema faculty for discussion and approval.
These workshops also provide additional opportunities for majors and non-majors to audition, design, run-crew, stage manage, and house manage. See our auditions page for dates and details.
24-Hour Project
This student-run production is conceived, written, performed, and teched all by students and all in a 24-hour period. We'll post information on our auditions page as well as on Facebook. Open to both theatre majors and non-majors!
