Music Production Portfolio Requirements

Music Production (Recording) applicants must submit a statement of interest and portfolio of work in order to complete an application.  Once you apply to Virginia Tech using the Common App, you will receive a form to share a link to your portfolio.  We recommend submitting this material using an online file sharing repository such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, or WeTransfer.  Please ensure the folder permissions are set so anyone with the link can view and download the files.  It is also recommended that the submission be containerized into a single package using Zip-compatible compression to ensure safe transit. 

Your submission should include:

• A brief (300–500 word) statement of interest expressing your goals and reasons for pursuing music recording and production studies at Virginia Tech

• At least three examples of work in recording, mixing, sound design, audio for post-production, or music production

Music Production (Composition) applicants must submit a portfolio of their work in order to complete an application. Once you apply to Virginia Tech using the Common App, you will receive a form to share a link to your portfolio. We recommend storing your portfolio in a file repository such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or WeTransfer. Please ensure the folder permissions are set so anyone with the link can view the files. 

Applicants should submit three original compositions or arrangements for computer or electronic music. Students should submit MP3 audio or MP4 video recordings of all pieces and a MP4 screen capture video of the software used to compose one of the pieces.
