The Perspective Gallery presents Emerge: Works by Sarah Bachman and Kaily Schenker.

Emerge

Perspective Gallery at Virginia Tech is hosting a two-person exhibition by Sarah Bachman and Kaily Schenker, titled Emerge.

Sarah’s paintings “document the activities of people I know and places I visit which are sources of normalcy and joy in a world tilting toward the posthuman condition.”  Sarah is a self-taught artist whose mixed-media paintings are inspired by the folk art and visionary arts movement.  Her illustrations can be seen on album covers, books and independent publishing projects.   She has an educational background in social work and is a native Virginian now based in Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania.

Kaily is a classically trained cellist who plays in several experimental and folk ensembles as well as her solo alias, Solar Hex. She is a self-taught fiber collage and mixed media artist that has been making pottery since the age of ten under the tutelage of Ellen Braaten, A Virginia Tech Assistant Professor Emerita of Architecture.  Kaily’s work is expressed “as directly as possible,” and influenced by her upbringing in Appalachia, medieval art, tattoos, tarot and the DIY culture.   A native of Blacksburg, Virginia, she states “that while my work is often very literal, and based on my own observations, I hope that folks may find elements that resonate with their own experiences.”

A closing reception will be held on August 28, from 4 – 6 p.m. in the gallery.  The gallery is open during the summer from 12 – 6 p.m. Monday – Saturday and is located on the 2nd floor of Squires Student Center. Please check the gallery website for holiday and weekend hours which vary.  All events are free and open to the public.
