"The Art of the Spiritual"

Jondra Harmon, mezzo-soprano, will present a recital on the origins, development, and proliferation of the American negro spiritual and art song.

This program will feature works by black composers from the 20th and 21st century who used their voice to amplify and reflect on the cultural and political shifts of our American history.

Navigating a changing world from slavery, to emancipation, through the civil rights era, and to today, this music gives an in-depth view on the American Black experience over the decades. Come listen, learn, and enjoy.
