Jo Darmon is an oboist and educator with a strong record of applied teaching, music education, and performance. She is currently the Instructor of Double Reeds at Virginia Tech University, where she teaches combined performance and reedmaking of both oboe and bassoon. She is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Oboe Performance at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, and she holds a Graduate Artist Certificate as well as both the Master of Music in Oboe Performance and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (summa cum laude, EC–12 certification) from the University of North Texas. In her recent work, she has served as Adjunct Instructor of Double Reeds at the University of Central Missouri, teaching undergraduate and graduate applied oboe and bassoon, along with coursework including Woodwind Methods, Aural Skills I, and History of Rock and Roll. Her teaching background also includes multi-year appointments as a Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas, private studio instruction, and prior experience as a junior high band director and general music teacher. As a performer, she has appeared with the Kansas City Symphony, the Missouri Symphony, and has held principal positions with regional ensembles.
