AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT
VT School of Performing Arts proudly presents
A Season of FRIENDS, FOES, & FAMILY:
"Little Women"
by Kate Hamill, adapted from the novel by Louisa May Alcott
directed by Amanda J. Nelson
PRODUCTION INFORMATION:
War, grief, and growing up. This coming-of-age play, set against the backdrop of a nation torn apart by war, follows the March sisters as they navigate their own civil wars within the family, their individual identities, and with the world around them.
It is highly recommended that you read the play ahead of your audition. Copies of the script are now available to be checked out with Stacy Blackburn in the Production Office, Henderson 303.
+ CAST: 6 women and 3 men, (several performers will play multiple roles)
Actors of all races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, and gender presentation/ identities are highly encouraged to audition.
+ REHEARSALS will be held March 3 - April 12, 2025. (There will be no rehearsal over spring break).
- Staging Rehearsals will be held six days a week: 6-10 pm Monday-Friday and Saturdays 12-4 in Theatre 101, Room 201.
- Spacing and Technical Rehearsals will be on stage in the Fife Theatre at the Moss Arts Center April 14-April 22.
- Note: Technical rehearsal on Saturday, April 19 is 11 am - 9 pm, and there is NO rehearsal on Sunday, April 20.
+ PERFORMANCES are April 23-26 in the Fife Theatre at the Moss Arts Center. There will be five performances total: Wednesday at 7:30pm; Thursday at 7:30pm; Friday at 10am* (this is a special school-time performance for area middle and high school students); Saturday at 2pm and 7:30pm.
*We will have a 10am School Matinee for this show on Friday, April 25, 2025. Theatre professors are aware of this and will receive more information at the beginning of spring semester about excused absences. Students with classes and/or majors outside of theatre will work with the production manager, Stacy Blackburn, in order to be excused from morning classes.
WHEN will AUDITIONS be held?
+ Auditions are WEDNESDAY, October 16 from 5:30pm-10pm.
+ AN ADDITIONAL AUDITION DAY HAS BEEN ADDED FOR FRIDAY OCTOBER 18, from 6-10pm.
Your audition will be scheduled for a specific 45-minute time slot, to allow for both individual auditions and group cold readings. Once you have submitted your form, you will receive an email from stage manager Leah Tucker or Production Manager Stacy Blackburn with the time of your audition.
+ Callbacks will be held TUESDAY, October 22 from 6-10 pm. Callbacks will be held in one big group, unless you have a reason to leave/arrive early, please plan to be held for the whole time.
WHERE will AUDITIONS be held?
+ Theatre 101 Building, Rm 101, 200 College Avenue, Blacksburg.
WHAT do I need to prepare for my AUDITION?
+ For your audition, please prepare a 1-2 minute monologue. The monologue does not have to be memorized and may be a short poem or story. Cold readings from the play will be provided at the audition. Please dress to move!
