Virginia Tech Honor Choir and Solo Contest - October 18-19, 2024

The Virginia Tech Honor Choir Festival and Solo Contest takes place annually in the fall in Blacksburg and accepts students by choral directors' and voice instructors’ recommendation. Both students and directors participate in rehearsals/sectionals, clinics,  vocal technique/masterclasses, bodywork and performances with Virginia Tech music faculty and guest clinicians. Students anticipating applying to and attending VT may compete for admittance and scholarship. The weekend culminates with a concert by the Honor Choir and VT Choirs in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre in the Moss Arts Center.

Solo Competition and Audition: Following registration, interested students may participate in the solo competition. Winners will have an opportunity to sing a selection at the Saturday afternoon Choir Concert, and one finalist will be awarded a $1000 scholarship for music major study at Virginia Tech for the 2025-26 academic year. The competition will start on Friday,  Oct 18 at 10 am and go until 12 p.m. 

  • If you choose, your participation in the Solo Competition may serve as our formal audition for the Virginia Tech music program.
  • Competition/Audition repertory is: two contrasting, memorized art songs or arias, one in English and one in a foreign language of your choice.
  • Sheet music for the audition must be submitted and unchanged (including titles and keys) by Sept. 30, 2024.
  • If planning to compete/audition, please sign up here.
  • Note: Once your audition pieces are submitted they cannot be changed. **Please bring a clean hardcopy of your scores in your chosen key, and a pianist will be provided.

Like any college campus, parking at Virginia Tech can be challenging without a plan.  On Saturday and Sunday, all spaces are open without permits and parking is free, but Friday requires some planning. We cannot reimburse or forgive any parking tickets.
