Nicolás Benavides (Nic)

Nicolás has been surrounded by the arts his whole life. He grew up in Bogotá, Colombia performing in elementary school plays organized by his mom (the music teacher), and going to see his dad play in the orchestra. His family relocated to the United States in 2001, and he continued to be involved with the arts in school. He discovered his love for tech theater in high school when he volunteered to help with the spring musical.

Nicolás earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama with a focus in set design and props production from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2016. He then spent four years in the field working for various theaters around the United States as a props artisan, scenic carpenter, head carpenter, assistant technical director, and technical director. He has lived in nine different states since 2016. Nicolás earned his Master of Fine Arts in Technical Design & Production in 2024 and is excited to bring his knowledge and various skills to Virginia Tech.
