"Farewell to the World" is a short documentary by Joseph Geehreng  about Gebremeskel Habteyonas Gebremariam, who was captured and imprisoned in 1979 at the age of twelve during one of Eritrea’s most turbulent eras.

Detained in Alem Bekagn, Gebremeskel faced a life sentence. Yet, in that darkness, he found light through education. Alongside other prisoners, he helped establish a secret school system inside the prison. Through interviews and archival footage, this film is a powerful testament to the resilience of an immigrant and the transformative power of education.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A.

Runtime: approximately 12 minutes
